In season 3 of Stranger Things, Nancy and Ruby go to the library to find more information about Victor Creel, a name that came up during their investigation about the recent suspicious deaths. They scan a number of newspapers using the microfilm reader—a machine that enlarges tiny photographic images of documents stored on microfilm, allowing materials such as newspapers, books, and archival records to be read on a screen. Through these newspapers, they find out that the man was convicted of the murder of his family, but he was claimed himself innocent, giving the blame to a demon. They connect this account to Vecna, making the newspapers a key passage in the resolution of the mystery.
