A central theme of the film is illustrating our biological limitations as human beings, like breathing, eating, or sleeping. In the spacecraft, the simple act of eating becomes more difficult because of gravity, so a liquipack in-flight food becomes the solution. The food packaging is used to show rather than tell the audience the difficulties of space travel, alongside human limitations in this specific environment.
