Two versions of the Advanced Potion Making Book were designed. The older version is quickly identifiable for its worn Victorian aesthetic, featuring ornate lettering and an illustration of a smoking cauldron. In contrast, the newer edition is more compact, with a minimalist design—its cauldrons are still present but rendered in a more stylized, modern fashion. This difference was crucial for the plot because the older version is the one the protagonist will get, which contains all the secrets that he will need to unfold the narrative. The inside is filled with the original possessor of the book: the Half Blood Prince.
