The arrival of thousands of envelopes in the home of Harry Potter in the first chapter of the saga is what triggers the whole hero journey of the narrative. It is through these letters that the protagonist finds out about the magical world of Hogwarts and begins his transition from the Muggle world to the wizarding sphere. As a prop, the letter sets the diegetic conditions under which the rest of the plot becomes possible.
